So, here's the thing -- I already have more presences on the interwebs than I know what to do with. I'm gonna be perfectly honest and say that I most likely will not use this blog for anything other than 23 Things. But, who knows...maybe I'll surprise myself.
Creating a blog on blogger was the assignment for week two of 23 Things 'n@, the Allegheny County Library Associations iteration of "23 Things," started at PLCMC (I think). I do think of myself as fairly tech-savvy in general, but I'm hoping there will be things I haven't seen or haven't thought of practical applications for. I think one of the biggest problems with using technology in libraries is being selective: many of us (myself included) want to do it ALL, and in so doing we spread ourselves too thin. I'm trying to avoid that by focusing my attention on what technologies my audience is using. Right now, that's Facebook -- but I also maintain (with the help of CLP Teen Specialists) a systemwide blog and send out the occasional e-newsletter. And, who knows -- in a couple of weeks maybe I'll be playing with My Yearbook, or something else that I haven't even heard of yet.
One of my audiences, obviously, is teens -- but my other audience is teen specialists at Allegheny County libraries. For them, I have other resources: the PittPrintz blog (please, people, start posting reviews!), the Teen Services Wiki, and for CLP Teen Specialists, the Teen Services section on the CLP wiki.
I think we're already doing some phenomenal things with technology -- but I think I'm hoping that 23 Things will help other teen-serving librarians become comfortable enough with new technologies that they'll use them with their teens -- and use the resources already available for them online, as well.
Well, that was long and rambling. I think it's time for lunch.
